Hiking and outdoor recreation in Inari hiking area

The Inari hiking area is an easily accessible destination, with trails leading you for day trips to the most beautiful landscapes of the region. Lake Inari offers numerous destinations for experienced hikers. For local residents Inari hiking area is an important year-round recreational spot. The area serves hikers with campfire sites and day huts.

  • Juutua circle trail, which is maintained in winter, has lights and nature trail boards with information about travellers on the Juutuanjoki River as well as events and fishing in the area.
  • Suspension bridge over the foaming Jäniskoski rapids which flow free even in winter.
  • A part of Juutua Trail is a demanding accessible trail.
  • Places for resting and to calm down are provided along the trail to Pielpajärvi Wilderness Church.
  • There is no winter maintenance on the Pielpajärvi and Tuulijärvi trails, but the snow on the trails is often stamped down by walkers.

The Juutua Trail, which follows the banks of the Juutua River, is one of the most popular routes in the area. A suspension bridge crosses the stunning Jäniskoski rapids. Part of the Juutua Trail is demanding accessible route. The Pielpajärvi Trail passes through ancient pine forests and along the shores of forest ponds to the historic Pielpajärvi Wilderness Church.

A 9 km trail from Inari leads to Otsamotunturi. The steep ascent is rewarding, as the fell offers the most magnificent views of Lake Inari and all the way to the Lemmenjoki fells.
