The versatile trails of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park take you to the freshest peaks and cosy campfire sites. In the National Park, you can experience the classic Hetta-Pallas hiking trail.

Good services, magnificent fell landscapes and long, meandering trails make Pallas-Yllästunturi one of the favourite destination for mountain biking.

The ski tracks take visitors to the heart of the park, to the slopes of fells and wilderness cafés to enjoy the purest air in the World.

Natural Features of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park

Fell heaths, taiga forests, aapa mires, lush streamside groves, and old-growth forests. Many southern species live at their northernmost limits.

Visitor's checklist

  • The National Park is a nature reserveEveryman’s Right are not valid as such in national parks.
  • There are movement restrictions in the areaThere is restricted areas where getting around is forbidden all year round or in the specific time of the year. Biking has restrictions. Read the Instructions and rules-page.
  • Camp only at permitted camping sitesCamping in the special, recreational and cultural zones is only allowed in the immediate vicinity of marked campsites and campfire sites as well as huts, excluding in the restricted zones. The use of stove-heated tents and saunas is prohibited in the national park.


  • Make campfires only in designated sitesIn the Recreation Zone of the National Park lighting campfires is only permitted maintained campfire sites that are marked on the map and in the terrain, using firewood brought in for that specific purpose. Before you light a fire, always check if any forest fire warnings are in effect. In the wilderness zone, you can make a temporary campfire using fallen twigs and dry branches. This is forbidden, if there is a maintained campfire site in a 0.5 km radius from you. In a restricted area it is forbidden to light a campfire.
  • Remember to bring a trash bagThere are no waste bins in the area. Bring a trash bag and take the trash with you. Recycling points are located in the Pallastunturi parking area, in the yard of the Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas and in the yard of the Fell Lapland Visitor Centre.
  • Always keep pets on a leashDog waste should be cleaned away from the paths. Letting pets run loose is forbidden. Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is a reindeer husbandry area. Keep a sufficient distance from the reindeer so as not to disturb or scare them.
  • Take the Sámi cultural environment into considerationBe respectful and do not damage the sacred sites of the Sámi people.
