There are numerous huts and lean-to shelters available for hikers to stay overnight in Urho Kekkonen National Park. Over the years, the huts have been renovated, but they still retain the old hiking history of the area. The newest open and shared rental hut is located at Rautulampi, completed in 2021.

Camping is guided by regulations

The recreational use of the national park is guided by zoning. The hiking and nature tourism zone and the remote zone of the national park have different rules regarding camping and open fires. Check the zones on the map and the restrictions from the national park rules.

Lean-to shelter and campfire huts

Most of the national park's lean-to shelters and campfire huts are located along the Suomujoki, Luttojoki and Nuorttijoki rivers and are suitable for overnight stays mainly in the summer and autumn. Camping

In the recreational and nature turism zone camping is permitted only at the campfire sites and on the designated tent areas near the huts. In the remote zone you can freely choose a camping location - except for the areas of Paratiisikuru, Lumikuru and the surroundings of ancient structures, where camping is forbidden. When camping, be considerate towards other hikers and those staying overnight. They may be tired after their day’s hike and wish to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

You can stay in wilderness huts for one or two nights without a reservation. Be prepared for the possibility that there may not be enough space to sleep in the hut. Water from natural sources must be purified before drinking. - No waste management.
