There are several companies operating in the Urho Kekkonen National Park area and its surrounding area that guide hikers and trekkers on day trips and longer hikes throughout the year.

  • Snowmobile Sleigh Tour 3 hours

    The snowmobile sleigh tour will take you to the fells to look for northern lights and gaze at the starry sky. Midway you'll have hot juice and a snack by the fire in a cozy lean-to-shelter. Winter forest in Tankavaara is silent, there's no lights disturbing your views to the sky. Try walking outside the trail and you might fall waist deep in soft snow, a true adventure! Our guide will drive the snowmobile while you sit comfortably in our sleigh. We will borrow winter overalls, gloves and helmets free of charge, if needed, so you can stay warm during the trip. Guests can't drive the snowmobile during this tour.

  • Guided tour through Gold Museum

    On the Gold Museum guided tour you can feel gold history legends coming to life. Our lively guide will tell stories and facts about the history of gold, colourful personalities and strokes of luck in the Finnish gold fields. Finland’s first gold rush began in 1869 in River Ivalojoki and today gold prospecting in Lapland continues as Europe’s most vibrant gold washing tradition. In the Golden World exhibition, under the world’s largest gold pan, our guide will introduce you the peculiarities of gold prospecting in different parts of the world. Most interesting are of course the gold discoveries that have changed the course of world history!   • Private Gold Panning Lesson at Gold Museum in Tankavaara

    A brief introduction to gold panning for beginners! Join us on the Finnish goldfields! At the Gold Museum’s gold panning basin, our guide teaches you how to find gold using a traditional Finnish gold pan. While you see and experience how gold stays under the sand at the bottom of the pan, you will hear interesting stories from the goldfields. At the end of the lesson, your gold haul is collected and you’ll be a nugget richer! Gold panning lesson are held at the museum’s indoor gold panning basin, so the program can be organized regardless of the weather. All equipment is provided.
