Snowshoeing

Talvinen tunturimaisema, etualalla on henkilö, jolla on lumikengät ja sauvat.

On a few hours’ trip on the marked snowshoeing trails in the national park, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of wintry nature and trees covered in crown snow. Snowshoeing trails are not maintained, but during the high season, they may be flattened enough for you to travel them without snowshoes. Some of the trails are maintained multi-purpose trails also intended for winter biking. Snowshoes can be rented from local entrepreneurs.

Birdwatching

Pitkänokkainen lintu istuu havupuun oksan kärjessä kirkasta sinistä taivasta vasten. Se näyttää tasapainottelevan yhdellä jalalla ja laulavan.

Nature trails on the aapa mires offer ample opportunity for encountering many winged creatures, e.g., the wood sandpiper (Tringa glareola), the bean goose (Anser fabalis) and the short-eared owl (Asio flammeus). In old-growth forests, you might encounter a busy grey-headed chickadee (Poecile cinctus), an Eurasian three-toed woodpecker (Picoides tridactylus) peeking from behind a tree trunk, a northern hawk-owl (Surnia ulula) watching its surroundings at the top of a dead tree, and if you are very lucky, a rare visitor, a red-flanked bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus). On the fells, you might be startled by a willow ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) taking flight near you or see a rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus) circling in the sky in the hope of catching a tasty vole.

Angling

Kaksi henkilöä seisoo rannalla onkimassa, taustalla on metsää.

You can go ice fishing in the Ahvenlampi Pond in Luosto in the winter, and you can fish there with a rod in the summer. Fishing always requires an angling permit, which can be purchased from the Eräluvat web store. Ahvenlampi Pond is stocked with rainbow trout large enough to catch.

Freerinding

Talvinen tunturimaisema, etualalla on kolme henkilöä, joilla on reput, sukset ja sauvat.

The rugged fell slopes also attract skiers. Please take snow conditions and snow safety into account! Freeriding is prohibited completely in the Isokuru restricted area and in the Peurakero restricted area between 15 February and 31 May.
