Mountain biking and winter biking
Mountain biking
In the snow-free season, the Pyhä-Luosto National Park has approximately 40 kilometres of trails specially designed for mountain biking. The trails bypassing fells and travelling through old-growth forests are mainly gravelled for easy riding, and the challenge lies mostly in the variation in elevation. You can choose from between 12km and 18km long circle trails or bicycle from Luosto to Pyhä, following the fell chain in the national park.
- Most trails are gravelled for easy riding and are also suitable for those with less experience in mountain biking.
- All trails are also hiking trails, so please take other trail users into consideration by letting them know when you are approaching and slowing down.
- Bicycling is also permitted on most hiking trails.
- Bicycling is prohibited outside the trails, in the Isokuru restricted area, and on the trails of Noitatunturi and Isokurunkangas area.
- Bikes can be rented from local entrepreneurs.
Winter biking
In the winter, you can admire the views over the national park's fells from an open aapa mire or enjoy fast downhill riding in snowy forests.
- Marked winter biking trails are maintained regularly, but weather conditions may affect their condition and the level of challenge, especially in open areas.
- The winter biking trails are multi-purpose trails also used by people on foot and on snowshoes.
- There are two trails shared with cross-country skiers; otherwise, bicycling is forbidden on ski tracks.
- Bikes suitable for winter biking can be rented from local entrepreneurs.
