In the Kevo Nature Park area, overnight stays are in tents

  • There are nine camping sites inside the strict nature reserve and outside, along the trails, there are four more. It is not allowed to take supporting poles or other wood from the area.
  • There is a lean-to shelter on the grounds of the open wilderness hut at the Lake Ruktajávri. This is meant to provide shelter during bad weather, not for overnight stays.
  • At Suohppášája, Njávgoaivi and Gamajotnsuohppasaja, there are Campfire huts where hikers can find shelter in bad weather. These Campfire huts are meant for day use only.
  • In Paistunturi Wilderness Area, next to the strict nature reserve, hikers are free to choose their own camping place.

Camping

  • Camping is only permitted in designated camping areas and in the immediate vicinity of all campsites. See campsite locations.

  • When camping, be considerate towards other hikers and those staying overnight. They may be tired after their day’s hike and wish to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

  • Please set up your tent in an area that has already been worn by previous campers. This way, we can avoid unnecessary expansion of camping areas and protect the delicate mountain environment from wear and tear.

Open Wilderness Huts

  • A wilderness hut is shared accommodation where self-guided hikers can rest and spend the night free of charge.
  • By following the hut etiquette, you take the environment, safety and other hikers into consideration. Read the instructions and hut etiquette that can be found in the hut.
