Snowshoeing is a fun, safe and easy way to get around in snow. Our local guide will take you to experience the beautiful and peaceful forests and fells of Utsjoki region. There is no need to be an athlete, as we can modify the route to different fitness levels! The technique of walking with snowshoes is basically like normal walking, but you have a larger footprint and "claws" that enable you to walk on snow easily, even uphill and downhill.
We welcome You to join us for a day with our reindeer on the fells in Utsjoki, Northernmost Finnish Lapland. You can sit comfortably and safe in a sleigh and watch and learn about traditional Sámi reindeer herding, and if you wish, also participate in feeding our reindeer. During the tour, you get to see the magnificent fell view of Paistunturi wilderness area, listen to stories about life in the Arctic and reindeer herding, enjoy some hot drinks and see reindeer in their natural habitat in the wilderness. This kind of tour is something unique and original to experience!
Ice fishing is a traditional way of catching fish in winter, when lakes are frozen. Join a local guide for a half-day tour on the fells and learn to catch your own fish! We will take you to the fells on a snowmobile and sleigh ride. We stop at a fell lake and try to catch arctic char and brown trout with an ice fishing rod. The guide will teach you how to fish and help you with using the rod. If you are lucky and get a catch, we can cook the fish for you on open fire. We enjoy hot drinks and snacks and sit comfortably on reindeer hides, admiring the silence and beauty of the wilderness around us. On our ice fishing trips, we only fish from waters that are too high in fish stock. This way we avoid exploiting the nature but restore balance of the lake, while having a nice time in the wilderness and learning new skills.
Utsjoki is a village nestled between the fells in Northernmost Finnish Lapland. Pure nature awaits right at your door. Join us on a day hike to the nearby fells - safely and guided. Let the wide-open landscapes with rolling fells and river valleys take your breath away, while our local guide tells you about the indigenous Sámi livelihoods and culture in Utsjoki region. Our trek is 6 km with elevation as high as 300 meters. If you are capable to walk this distance on uneven terrain, you can take part on our tour. We hike on a pace that is comfortable for participants. We will enjoy small snacks and hot drinks in a traditional lávvu-hut or while admiring the view from the highest fell-top.
