Berry picking

You can pick a variety of berries ripening at different times in Muotkatunturi Wilderness Reserve. Blueberries, lingonberries and cloudberries are common and can be picked in large quantities, especially near mires and wetlands. Mountain birch groves and aapa mires are good places for gathering berries, which is guaranteed to be a pleasant experience in this peaceful area.

Wild fungi

Picking wild fungi is also popular in Muotkatunturi Wilderness Reserve. Its forests and mountain birch groves provide good growing conditions for different species of fungi. Brittlegills, boletes and milkcaps are common, especially in old-growth forests dominated by pines and mountain heaths. Matsutake (Tricholoma matsutake) is a highly valued species that also grows in the pine forests of Muotka. It is known for its special flavour and appreciated by cooks.
