Birdwatching

Birds that can be spotted in the national park include the golden eagle, Siberian jay, willow grouse, or golden plover. There are the observation tower at the top of Pikku-Tankavaara.

Canoeing

There are no marked canoeing routes in the national park. Excellent canoeing spots include Rivers Luirojoki, Kopsusjoki and Nuortti. When canoeing or kayaking on the Nuortti River, you must land immediately after the National Park border at Kärekeoja, from where it is a short distance to the Haukiniva parking area. With light, portable paddling equipment, you can continue further along the Nuortti River if you wish, but you must land no later than before the Kolsankoski bridge and the border zone, from where the equipment must be carried back to the parking area on foot. The canoeing maps for the Luiro and Nuortti Rivers are maintained by the municipality of Savukoski (korvatunturi.fi).

Hunting

Only local residents are allowed to hunt in Urho Kekkonen National Park within the area of the municipality of their residence, and are subject to the Hunting Act regulations.

Horse riding

Horseback riding is permitted in the national park on routes: Kemihaara‒Peskihaara-Keskipakat, Kemihaara‒Mantoselkä, Kemihaara‒Rakitsat and Kakslauttanen-Kopsusjärvi lakes' terraintrail shelter (Kopsusjärventien laavu) until.
