- In summertime, you can walk in the Mountain Birch forests and admire Bluethroats (Luscinia svecica), Bramblings (Fringilla montifringilla) and even Ring Ouzels (Turdus torquatus), and up in the bare fells you may see Long-tailed Skuas (Stercorarius longicaudus), Eurasian Dotterels (Eudromias morinellus) and European Golden Plovers (Pluvialis apricaria).
- In the winter, a hiker may well spot a Ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) and delight in the Willow Grouse's (Lagopus lagopus) courtship display in the springtime birch forest.
- With a pair of binoculars directed at Lake Kilpisjärvi, you may catch a glimpse of arctic waterfowl like Long-tailed Ducks (Clangula hyemalis) and Velvet Scoters (Melanitta fusca).
Paddling
- You may freely go boating on Lake Kilpisjärvi, but it is not wise to venture out onto the open lake in a rowing boat.
