The Virkkula birdwatching tower is being renovated at Liminka Bay

The Virkkula birdwatching tower located at Liminka Bay is being renovated on a fast schedule before Easter, during week 16.

The floor panels of the upper platform of the stairs will be repaired at the birdwatching tower. Additionally, the floor panels of the top viewing platform will be reattached. According to preliminary information, access to the birdwatching tower will not be significantly restricted during the renovation, although there may be moments when access is blocked. The renovations may also affect observations with a spotting scope by causing vibrations in the tower's structure.

The renovation of the Virkkula birdwatching tower is being carried out by the municipality of Liminka. The Virkkula tower is the most popular of the birdwatching towers at Liminka Bay and is located in a central location near the Liminka Bay Visitor Centre maintained by Metsähallitus. The distance from the nature center to the tower is approximately 600 meters one way along an accessible route.

The Virkkula birdwatching tower will be further renovated after the spring migration season during the summer of 2025.
