The starting point is the Lihapyörre parking area.
At the beginning, the trail follows along the accessible trail for 200 metres, to the accessible Lihapyörre lean-to shelter. After the lean-to shelter, the trail becomes narrower. A couple of kilometres later, a connecting trail to Julma-Ölkky branches off from the trail. You can admire the Somerjoki River flowing below you after the Ala-Ölkky lean-to shelter.
From the Ala-Ölkky lean-to shelter, the trail continues to the shore of Lake Somerjärvi, where the Värikallio cooking shelter is located. A trail to the rock paintings and the Värikallio steel viewing platform starts by the cooking shelter. The steel viewing platform does not have a path for dogs.
The journey back begins with very steep stairs leading to the top of the Mieskallionvaara Hill. The rest of the way is easy, gentle downhill back to the Lihapyörre parking area.
