There are signposts at intersections and campfire sites. The ski tracks and winter trails are maintained by the municipality of Kolari. Walk the maintained trail to Kahvikeidas. From Kahvikeidas follow the direction indicated by the blue sign for “Tuomikuru”. Follow the blue posts marking the trail to Tuomikuru. Tuomikuru Winter Trail takes you into the depths of the forest right away. Your snowshoes will sink into the soft snow as you trek through the silent forest. Tree branches bend under the weight of the snow, and animal tracks criss-cross on the surface of the snow.
The trail climbs steadily all the way to the tree line. Up on the fell, it becomes easier to walk because the wind has hardened the snow. Set in the magnificent fell landscape, Tuomikuru Day Trip Hut provides shelter and a pleasant place to roast a snack and warm up. After a break, it’s time to step out of the hut and admire the wide-open scenery. The hut provides a beautiful view of the horizon and the soft colours of a winter day. During the dark season, the hut is a great place to look for the northern lights. From the campfire hut, go back the same route to Kahvikeidas. From Kahvikeidas wilderness café, follow the direction indicated by the blue sign for "Sport Resort Ylläs" to return to the starting point.
