Starting pointPallastunturi Visitor Centre parking area
The trail starts at Pallastunturi parking area. Follow the green signpost for Taivaskeron kierros Trail.
The trail starts at the signpost on the edge of the parking area after Pallastunturi's Pikkukuru bridge. Follow the green Taivaskeron kierros signpost for approximately 300 metres and then cross a small bridge. The bridge is a wooden structure and has a handrail on the left side.
The trail climbs gently upwards for approximately 600 metres. From the crossing, continue along the trail on the left and past the monuments at the old hotel.
Soon you can sit on the steps of a weathered reindeer herder’s hut and admire the fell landscape stretching before you. From the crossing, continue along the trail on the right side of the reindeer herder’s hut and follow the Taivaskeron kierros signpost. The total distance travelled to the crossing is approximately 1 km.
The trail becomes steeper and after a 2-km climb turns from Taivaskeronsatula towards Taivaskero Fell. An old wooden signpost shows the way. The trail continues from here as a natural trail for the next 4.5 km.
The boulder-covered fell summit soars above the mid-point of the trail. The beautiful views from Taivaskero Fell stretch in every direction. Take a deep breath and enjoy the purest air in the world. The air quality is measured at the nearby Sammaltunturi weather station. The total distance travelled is 5.5 km. In wet weather and with consideration to the level of the group, we recommend returning along the same route from Taivaskero Fell to the parking area.
The next section of trail is steep and rocky in places. The trail continues to be scenic but becomes demanding as it approaches Liisansatula and climbs from there to Laukukero Fell. At Laukukero, you first pass the rear lift and then descend towards the front lift. The trail descends down the ski slope to the lower station of the front lift.
At the lower station, continue from the signpost towards the Pallastunturi parking area approximately 200 metres away. This section of the trail is a roadbed. The total distance travelled to the parking area is approximately 8.2 km.
