Set off for an excursion in the historical scenery of the Kruununpuisto Park! Explore geology that has drastically changed the area, the local natural features and the power plant.
By order of Nicholas I, Emperor of Russia, the Imatrankoski Rapids area (the Kruununpuisto area) was protected in 1842. The channel of the rapids and the bridges divide the park into parts. The nature trails run in an area between the old channel of the rapids and a power plant canal. The City Brook flowing through the park divides the path into two trails. In the Muinaisuomanpuisto Park, you can admire giant’s kettles that formed when the River Vuoksi was created. There are stairs down to the park from the bridge. The area between the power plant’s lower canal and River Vuoksi is called Ivoniemi. The nature trail to Ivoniemi starts from a parking area between the bridges across the Imatrankoski Rapids, address Ylisyöksy 1. When walking along the Ivoniemi Nature Trail (Ivoniemen luontopolku), take a look at the power plant’s lower canal and, downstream, the rapids. Along the trails, you will receive information on the geology, history, natural features and human activities in the area.
