Starting pointPyhäjärvi parking area, Aakenus Pyhäjärvi
Pyhäjärvi Lake parking area: Pyhäjärventie 507, Kittilä. The 5-km Pyhäjärvi gravel road that branches off from Aakenuksentie road is bumpy. We recommend driving with vehicles that have high ground clearance. Driving on the forest road is at the driver's own risk.
The parking area has a hard base, but it is a coarse sandy field in some places. There are no designated parking spaces for people with reduced mobility, but we recommend parking on the right side of the parking area when looking towards the starting point signpost. Trail users with reduced mobility usually require an assistant and a mobility aid designed for use in nature. The demanding accessible trail is approximately 500 metres long each way. It leads to the accessible Pyhäjärvi Lake campfire hut and lookout point.
The trail through the forest is level. The trail has a rock dust surface and is approximately 120 cm wide. There is one wider spot at the mid-point to allow for passing.
The Pyhäjärvi Lake hut is large enough for a wheelchair. The threshold into the hut is 5 cm high. There is an accessible toilet in the immediate vicinity of the hut. This has a steep ramp that may require an assistant. The wood shed is not accessible. There is a gentle 50-metre descent from the hut to the viewing point, where you can see Pyhäjärvi and Pyhälompolo lakes. There is also a crossing boat at the viewing point, but it is not accessible. The distance back to the Pyhäjärvi parking area is 0.26 km.
