The parking area can take around 30 cars. There are no designated accessible parking spaces in the parking area. The parking area is a flat gravel lot.
A wide, easily hiked boardwalk, the Niemis-Koukkunen trail starts from behind Niemisjärvi kiosk and runs along the shores of Alinen and Ylinen Niemisjärvi lakes towards Vähä-Koukkujärvi lake. Trail markings: white diamonds with a black circle inside.
From the Niemisjärvi parking area up to the Ylinen Niemisjärvi scenic bridge, the trail follows a 1.5 metre wide path surfaced with rock ash.
Along the trail, there are a few steep climbs and descents of 10-20 metres that have an incline of as much as 10-16%. The crosswise slope is up to 8-10% in places. It should be noted that, at some points, the hill slopes sharply towards the shore. The rock ash embankments are sometimes very steep, and they are not fitted with retaining structures for their entire length. The embankments are retained with planks at the most dangerous sections.
The steel scenic bridge has a width of 1.1 m. The grid size of the steel bridge is approx. 2 cm x 6 cm. On the right-hand side of the platform, a steel ramp which is two planks wide provides access for dogs. After the bridge, the trail turns into a boardwalk (width 1.2 m). The boardwalk has several passing points that are over 2 metres wide.
Angling permit holders can fish in Niemisjärvet lakes from the two accessible docks. Crushed rock ramps leading to the shore that are suitable for fishing can be found along the trail close to the lean-to shelter on Ylinen Niemisjärvi lake and in the south-east corner of Ylinen Niemisjärvi. There are seven platforms along the accessible trail around Vähä-Koukkujärvi lake.
