Moloslaen kierros Trail introduces hikers to the local fauna, geology and history in the area and takes them into a rugged boulder field. The trail provides a view of the landscape across aapa mires and forests towards Levi and Ylläs. Walking is recommended for this trail around the Moloslaki summit of Aakenustunturi Fell. Remember to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes, because some parts of the trail pass through rocky terrain. Please note that the weather on the fells can change quickly. The remains of a German transport aircraft dating back to 1944 are a historical sight on the slope of Moloslaki. Aakenustupa open wilderness hut is a campsite on the last part of the trail. It also has a dry toilet in the yard. The terrain is partly hardened and partly varied natural trail.

Starting point: Totovaara parking area: Totovaarantie 165, 99100 Kittilä. There is recycling point at the edge of the parking area. Private buildings are located opposite the parking area, so please respect the privacy of homes. Moloslaen kierros Trail is a nature trail, which has low information boards along the way that describe the nature in the area.
From Totovaara parking area, follow the green Moloslaen kierros signpost. The trail is hardened and easy to walk. The trail crosses a bridge over Toto-oja stream and crosses Totovaarantie road approximately 500 metres after leaving the parking area.
The trail climbs steadily, continuing for another 1.5 km before arriving at a crossing. The total distance travelled is 2 km.
Continue from the crossing by following the green Moloslaen kierros signpost. The trail becomes a natural path and climbs more gently along the edge of the fell slope close to the tree line.
After 2.5 km, the trail passes an old, decommissioned campsite. Please do not make a campfire here, as fires are only permitted at official campfire sites. You can fill your water bottle at the spring here. We recommend boiling natural waters if you are not sure about the quality of the water. The total distance travelled is 4 km. Continue to follow the green Moloslaen kierros signpost.
The trail soon passes the remains of an old transport aircraft. Please do not break or otherwise damage the aircraft parts. After the aircraft, the trail begins to climb towards Vaulokuru Ravine and becomes the boulder field terrain that is typical of Aakenustunturi Fell. Stop to read the information board describing the formation of Vaulokuru Ravine and take a break to enjoy the landscape.
After Vaulokuru, the trail climbs to the esker on Aakenustunturi Fell and to the highest point of the trail (476 metres). The total distance travelled is 6 km. Enjoy a great view of the fells and nature’s soothing influence at the scenic Aakenustunturi Fell. Follow the green Moloslaen kierros signpost.
The trail starts to descend towards Aakenustupa hut, remaining close to the tree line. The section leading to Aakenustupa hut provides a view across mires and forests towards Ylläs. From the crossing, follow the green Moloslaen kierros signpost. The distance travelled from esker on Aakenustunturi Fell is 1 km.
After 400 metres, the trail reaches the wooded yard of Aakenustupa hut. Aakenustupa is a open wilderness hut that replaced the old Moloslehto reindeer herder's hut. There is a dry toilet and wood shed in the yard of the hut. The total distance travelled is about 6.8 km.
From Aakenustupa, the trail continues along the edge of the slope near the tree line for about 1 km. The terrain is a natural trail and slightly rocky. From the crossing, follow the green Moloslaen kierros signpost. From here on, there are wooden arrow signs along the trail over Vasalaki and back to the tree line.
The reward for climbing Vasalaki is a lookout point with chairs. After the lookout, the trail becomes rockier as you leave the tree line behind. Continue climbing to Vasalaki for about 500 metres.
From the top of Vasalaki, follow the Moloslaen kierros signpost. The trail starts to descend towards the tree line and becomes a hardened path that is easy to walk. Continue along the trail for approximately 1.5 km towards the crossing at Totovaarantie road. After crossing the road, continue 500 metres back to the parking area. The total distance travelled is 10 km.
