The trail runs, along Laukunharju Esker, to the shores of Lake Laukkujärvi, from where it continues to the shores of Lake Talasjärvi and Lake Puukkojärvi. The trail is otherwise easy, but the descent to Laukunsalmi, and the ascents and descents on the esker in the final part of the trail are demanding. There is no winter maintenance on the trail.

The starting point is the Hossalaislammet parking area, Pistonlehdontie 225, Suomussalmi.
The Pieni-Hossalaislampi campfire site and pier are located right at the beginning of the trail. From there, the trail continues to the Puukkojärvi open wilderness hut and campfire site, passing through Lake Syvä-Suottajärvi and Lake Matala-Suottajärvi. If you don’t want to take a break in the open wilderness hut’s yard, the Puukkojärvi lean-to shelter is also nearby.
From the Puukkojärvi lean-to shelter, the trail continues along the shores of Lake Talasjärvi to Laukunsalmi and the shore of Lake Laukkujärvi, where you can find another open wilderness hut. From there, the trail continues on the top of the Laukunharju Esker to the shore of Lake Umpi-Valkeainen, where you can find yet another campfire site.
From Lake Umpi-Valkeainen, the trail continues to the Pieni-Hossalaislampi Pond and the Hossalaislammet parking area.
If you wish, you can extend the Laukkujärvi lenkki Trail by starting your excursion from the Huosivirta parking area and including the 5-kilometre Hakokosken hujaus Trail.
