The trail starts with a ferry voyage across Lake Kilpisjärvi that will take approximately half an hour. During the voyage, you can admire the rugged landscapes of the Tuipal and Paras Fells that open ahead as well as the beautiful views of the Malla Strict Nature Reserve, including the Kitsiputous / Gihcigorži Waterfall. This trail is a perfect combination of natural beauty and peace, and it is suitable for all friends of nature.

From Koltalahti / Golddaluokta, the trail follows the border fence between Sweden and Finland. The trail is easy to hike. The trail is winding, and sometimes it dips in a beautiful mountain birch forest.
After approximately 1.5 kilometres, the trail reaches the shore of Lake Kuohkimajärvi / Guohkkemašjávri, from where the trail continues between the shoreline and the border fence. The lake landscape is beautiful and offers some variation.
The trail crosses a small stream and reaches the Malla Strict Nature Reserve. This is about 300 metres from the Three Nations’ Border Point, and about 400 metres from the Guohkkemašjávri / Kuohkimajärvi open wilderness and shared rental hut. The total distance travelled is approximately 3 kilometres.
Please note that if you also want to return by boat, you must contact the transport company in advance to agree on the return journey. Please note that the boat dock in Koltalahti / Golddaluokta is located in Sweden.
