The winter trail takes you from Äkäshotelli across the ice of Lake Äkäslompolo towards a forested ascent. After the climb, the trail winds through the snowy forest and open mires and you’ll also catch a few glimpses of the fells between the trees.
Hangaskuru campfire shelter is a scenic place to warm up and take a break. The best part of winter riding starts after the hut, as the trail is slightly downhill and offers lots of curves and short uphill and downhill sections. This is mountain biking at its best!
Before you arrive at the Latvamaja, the route follows the edge of a mire along the borders of a national park, which are inhabited by animals throughout the year.
The early spring sunshine is sure to put a smile on your face. The gently rolling downhill section continues on to the amazing fell scenery at Kesänkijärvi lean-to shelter, which is a great place to see some Siberian jays and meet other hikers. From Kesänkijärvi, you’ll pedal beside the mire and back to the starting point.
