Hike through the rugged fells, greet a curious Siberian jay (Perisoreus infaustus) and roast a snack over a campfire near the lake shore. This easy hiking trail is surrounded by rugged fells and gives you the chance to experience some of Fell Lapland’s finest nature. Stay alert at the campsite or you may be sharing your lunch with the bold jays. Starting point: Kesänkijärvi parking area: Sahatie, 95970 Äkäslompolo. Sahatie is a narrow gravel road that is bumpy in places. The rock dust trail leading from the parking area (no designated parking spaces for people with reduced mobility) to the accessible lean-to shelter is 1.7 km long and 1.5 metres wide for the entire journey. The out-and-back trail runs mainly through flat terrain at a distance of approximately 50 metres from the lake shore. Follow the brown "2 Kesängin Keidas" signpost from the parking area.
The most challenging part of the trail has a longitudinal slope of 14% and a lateral slope of 8%. In addition, the trail has deteriorated just before the campsite and has a lateral slope of 11%. The trail also has some short sections with lateral slopes of 7–10% and longitudinal slopes between 8–14%, and a section of 30 metres where there is no protective edge.
There is a fork in the trail at the end of Kesänkijärvi Lake. The accessible lean-to shelter is 100 metres from the crossing. The ramp to the wood shed and accessible toilets is steep (11%). There is a threshold at the entrance to the wood shed, which may make it more difficult to use. The crossing has no signposts to the pier or lean-to shelter.
An accessible wooden path that is 150 metres long and 1.3 metres wide leads to the wilderness café. The early part of this trail also branches off to the pier. The wooden path to the pier is accessible, but the sections connecting it to the pier have two 12 cm gaps that may make access more difficult.
The distance back along the same route is 1.7 km. Follow the brown “2 Kesänkijärvi P” signpost.
