Jyppyränpolku Trail is the shortest route to reach the photogenic views over the national park’s fells. It’s also a good place to see the magical midnight sun. A gravel path from Fell Lapland Visitor Centre takes you through a light-filled pine forest to the top of Jyppyrävaara Hill. After a climb of less than 1km, you’ll be treated to some amazing wilderness landscapes. The last part of the trail is rocky and steep for a short distance, so it’s not suitable for children’s prams. The route is marked with orange-red sun symbol signs.
- Campfire siteAlways check for any wildfire warnings in effect before making a fire.
- No water point
- Remember to bring a trash bagThere are no waste bins on the trail. Bring along your own trash bag and take your waste out with you when leaving.

Jyppyränpolku Trail is an out-and-back route that starts between the buildings in the Visitor Centre yard. Other local paths also start at the same place. There is a map of the route at the beginning of the trail and at the crossings. Jyppyränpolku Trail is marked by an reddish-orange sun symbol on a black wooden post.
The trail starts with a gravel path of some 300 metres that climbs gently to a crossing leading to the fitness stairs. At this point, people travelling to Jyppyrävaara Hill can choose a steeper and shorter set of stairs or a longer and flatter route.
The Jyppyrä fitness stairs are 53 metres long with a 20-metre difference in elevation and 114 steps. The stairs have handrails on both sides. Part of the stair route also has a rock dust surface. Please note that the fitness stairs are closed during the winter and there is no winter maintenance.
The flatter trail is 300 metres long and mainly consists of a rock dust trail that takes you to the signpost at the top of Jyppyrävaara Hill. The partly hardened trail from the crossing to the top of Jyppyrävaara Hill continues and connects with the path from the stairs. The last part of the trail is rocky and steep for a short distance. The total distance from the signpost to the top is approximately 300 metres.
The trail is rarely busy, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and the company of Siberian Jays (Perisoreus infaustus) or Siberian Tits (Poecile cinctus). You can admire familiar forest plants along the trail, and the scent of the Twin Flower (Linnaea borealis) invites you to take a closer look. The climb to the top is worth the effort and you’ll be rewarded by amazing views over Ounasjärvi Lake to Pyhäkero at Ounastunturi Fell. Jyppyrä Lapp hut is a good place to prepare some snacks and sit down to enjoy the summer day in sun chairs.
You can return to the Visitor Centre along the same trail, choosing a gentler and slightly longer route or by taking the fitness stairs. You can also combine the climb up Jyppyrävaara Hill with Kuntopolku Trail, Palosenjärvipolku Trail and Pahtajärven polku Trail.
