Enjoy the shimmering spring sun and the tracks left by animals as you make your way towards Äkässaivo campfire hut. Follow the trail signs as you hike through the silent snowy forest. During the spring, the sun is low on the horizon and makes the snow sparkle as it shines through the pine trees. You might see animal tracks in the snow. Look up into the sky if you’re hiking at night. You’ll see thousands of glittering stars and the fire-fox wagging its tail to create the northern lights. It won’t be long before you catch a glimpse of Äkässaivo campfire hut through the long shadows and trees. This is a great place to take a break and roast some snacks with the youngest members of your family. The area is a protected forest established by Metsähallitus. The Äkässaivo relic area is amongst the nationally significant cultural environments in Finland. Please respect the protected cultural environment when hiking.

The Äkässaivo winter trail is an unmaintained route, so snowshoes are recommended. The trail is marked with tall wooden poles topped with blue reflectors. The route follows the base of the Saivonkierros summer trail, and along the way, you might see the low information boards of the thematic trail.
The Äkässaivo relic area is amongst the nationally significant cultural environments in Finland. The area is a protected forest established by Metsähallitus. Visitors should follow marked routes in the area. It is forbidden to climb up the rock formations. The relics are protected under the Antiquities Act, and damaging them is forbidden. Please respect the protected cultural environment when hiking.
