The Oulujärvi camping area is located in the waist of Suomi-neido, 80 km west of Kajaani, 150 km east of Oulu and 450 km north of Helsinki. The nearest airport and train station are in Kajaani. The distance from Vaala to the camping area is 50 km.

The island of Manamansalo can be reached from road no. 22 from Oulu to Kajaani through Petäjälahdentie, or from the south shore of the lake by using Alassalmi ferry.
