Örö is the crown jewel of the Archipelago National Park. The open dry meadows and moist shoreline pastures of the island are home to many rare plant and butterfly species that have not been found anywhere else in Finland. The most historically valuable sites on Örö are the barrack areas, fortifications at the northern tip of the island, the hill with a mortar and the remains of a 120 mm artillery battery. The island's bunkers and trenches can turn hiking into an adventure, especially for children. The six kilometres of old cobblestone roads on Örö make getting from one end of the island to the other easy. A bike comes in handy if you want to travel quickly, but walking around the island is also easy enough. Örö is an ideal day trip destination, but if you would like to explore the whole island without rushing, an overnight stay is recommended. While Örö is a highly suitable family destination, it is not accessible.
