Oravi village is the Seal Center of Saimaa Oravi village has been a center for seal watching and research for decades due to the perfect location in the middle of the best seal waters. The main seal season (the molting season) is in May In June-September we arrange seal watching trips in the evening. On our seal safaris you get to know the world’s most endangered seal that can be found only in lake Saimaa. We watch the animals from a distance and make sure we do not disturb the seals. During the molting season we can see the seals throughout the day. From June until September the best time to see the seals is at sunset. We also have accessible safari boats!
Sauna in Linnansaari National Park, Lake Saimaa region

Enjoy a traditional Finnish sauna during your stay in the National Park. The sauna is located in Sammakkoniemi on Linnansaari island and it can be booked online, from the reception in Oravi or from the cafeteria on the island (please check the opening hours!). The sauna is a traditional Finnish sauna with a wood heated stove, water pot and of course direct access to the lake for swimming. The sauna is bookable for one hour at a time, you can book several hours if you want. The first goer of the day is responsible for heating up the sauna (if it's your first time please ask advise from our staff). The sauna is in use from May until October. NOTE: The sauna is situated on an island and you need to go there by boat. You can rent a canoe or boat from Oravi or take a water taxi or regular boat. Kayaking Tour to Linnansaari National Park

3-day kayaking tour to Linnansaari National park. Price includes kayaks, lifevests, paddles, spraydecks and paddling guide. There are 40 national parks in Finland, and many of them are excellent for kayaking trips. We organize trips to the national parks best suited for kayaking. Each trip accommodates a maximum of 10 participants. We use single or double kayaks suitable for expedition use, and if you prefer to bring your own kayak, that is also possible. If needed, you can rent camping equipment from us for the duration of the trip, unless you have your own gear. Prevailing wind conditions may cause changes to the route or schedule. The trip may also be canceled if the weather conditions do not allow for a safe trip at the planned time, and if it is not possible to reschedule. During the trips, we camp in tents at designated camping sites within the national parks. We depart for the trips from Tampere at around 10 a.m. on the departure day and return to Tampere by 10 p.m. on the return day. If you are joining from somewhere other than Tampere, we will agree on a meeting point, the starting location, and the departure time, so you can meet us there by your own means. Linnansaari National Park showcases Finnish lake nature at its best. The park, with its hundreds of islands and islets, is home to the Saimaa ringed seal and the osprey. The coexistence of humans and nature is visible in the old slash-and-burn forests and traditional landscapes. The archipelago nature of Linnansaari National Park is diverse; rugged shoreline cliffs give way to lush deciduous forests as you move inland on the islands. The traditional landscapes of the park are maintained through renewed slash-and-burn practices, mowing, and grazing. The Linnansaari area is one of the best habitats for the Saimaa ringed seal (Phoca hispida saimensis), with approximately 50 individuals living there. Daily distances are a maximum of approximately 20 km.

It involves an intuitive approach that goes beyond the mind, surrendering to the depths of the subconscious and trusting that all the answers lie within. Catarina Brazão is a facilitator of individual and group processes, a somatic educator, and a social worker. On a Shepherds' Holiday you can book yourself a unique traditional cottage (Hiekon Torppa) with a history dating back to the 1500s. Imagine yourself living a time without comforts, enjoying the most traditional cottage experience when there is no running water and all the everyday things can be done without haste. Enjoy your stay amidst relaxing nature and beautiful landscapes, accompanied by sheep whose daily needs and water supply you can take care of (this can also be left to the owner of the farm). Dogs are also welcome, but must be kept on a lead. Hiekon Torppa is situated on 5 hectares of traditional farmland.The pasture borders the shore of Lake Saimaa and is only a few kilometres by water from the Linnansaari National Park. Torppa has a bedroom for three people and a room with a bed, a kitchen-living room, a baking oven, electricity, a fridge-freezer and a gas stove. There is a charming barbecue area in the courtyard and firewood can be found in the yard. No running water, drinking water is brought to the cottage and more can be fetched from the manor. Here you can experience the old traditional "ulkohuussi" as we say in Finnish, which is a traditional Finnish latrine, a separate outbuilding where you go to take care of your daily needs. The lakeside sauna on the shores of Lake Saimaa Haukivesi is open daily until 15:00. The distance to the sauna is about 800 meters. In addition, guests have access to a private beach and pier. Minimum rental period 3 nights. Linen booked separately. You can either buy the final cleaning or clean the accommodation yourself.

Somatic Sound Journeys are a unique combination of an immersive sound experience with an embodied listening practice. The immersive sonic landscapes used involve a variety of nature sounds and acoustic music recorded three-dimensionally. Music and sound elicit emotive and intuitive associations that can be felt physically, opening up a space to train somatic awareness. Somatic Sound Journeys were created by somatic educator Catarina Brazão and composer Markus Pesonen with the intention of learning to feel the body by observing and exploring ourselves in relation to sound. You are invited to use the experience for somatic processing of sensations, emotions or any information that is produced by the impact of the sound in the body. It’s a form of active listening that deepens self-awareness and the connection to the “soma” — the felt body. Every journey is unique. Its composition is created in the moment. Markus spent many years recording sounds, playing different instruments and composing several tracks that are now the sonic material for the journeys. The experience is accompanied by a blindfold mask that enables total darkness even with open eyes. A holographic speaker system is also used, balancing our hearing and thus bringing a sense of deep centredness. The intention behind it is to support each participant in accessing and surrendering to their bodily sensations and inner movie.

Autumn Colors in Linnansaari and a day trip by boat

A safari boat will take you from Oravi village to the main island of Linnansaari National Park. In the park you can enjoy outdoors independently by hiking on one of the marked trails and visit Linnavuori hill for a nice view. Marked trails are 2,2km, 5,5km and 7 km. You can also pop in to the museum croft and the slash and burn site for some history. Museum is located ca. 800m from the harbor. Linnansaari is also known for its good mushroom and berry picking sites. Explore the island and gather a healthy snack or ingredients for a tasty mushroom dish. For picnic you can use one of the fire places on the camp sites. There is dry firewood in the sheds nearby! Boat transfer to the island takes ca. 20 minutes. Recommended time is min. 2 hours on the island. If you are hiking the longest route it takes 3 hours! You can agree on the return time with the boat driver. Linnansaari Winter Trail on the Ice -Skating and hiking, Lake Saimaa region

The most beautiful ice trail in Finland, from Oravi through Linnansaari National Park to Rantasalmi, or vice versa. The total length of the prepared route is up to 20 km depending on the weather conditions. The route is open for walkers, mountain bikes, kick sparks, skiers and skaters when the weather is permitting. There are fire places along the route and a cafeteria on Linnansaari (mainly open on Saturdays when the route is open). There is also a marked snow shoe trails on Linnansaari island. You can rent tour skates, skis, snowshoes etc. from the rental shop in Oravi. During this overnight mini-break you'll visit the Linnansaari National Park for a day tour, enjoy traditional Finnish sauna by the lake and sleep cozy in Oravi Apartments. Accommodation in double/ twin room with mini kitchen, bathroom, WLAN and tv. Hotel is located in Oravi village, only 150m from the harbor/ village shop. DAY 1. At your arrival (9am-1pm) a safari boat will take you from Oravi village to the main island of Linnansaari National Park. In the park you can enjoy the day outdoors by hiking on one of the marked trails and visit Linnavuori hill for a nice view. Marked trails are 2,2km, 5,5km and 7 km. You can also pop in to the museum croft and the slash and burn site for some history. The croft is located ca 800m from the harbor. Linnansaari is also known for its good mushroom and berry picking sites. Explore the island and gather a healthy snack or ingredients for a tasty mushroom dinner. For picnic you can use one of the fire places on the campsites. There is dry firewood in the sheds nearby! Boat transfer to the island takes ca 15 minutes. Recommended time is min. 2 hours on the island. If you are hiking the longest route it takes ca 3 hours! You can set the return time with the boat driver. The default tour time is 3 hours. After the day outdoors, it's time to go sauna and have a swim in the lake. The sauna will be ready for you (please book the time in the reception on arrival). Self-made dinner in the apartment. DAY 2. Breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast basket will be delivered in the room the previous evening. Please let us know your special diets! Check out.
