Waste management
There are no waste collection bins in the parking areas, or along the routes, or at the campfire sites, so visitors must take their waste from the hike with them.
-
Remember to bring some rubbish bags when you go out.
-
Koli Nature Center Ukko has a sorting point in the yard.
-
Take your rubbish home, do not burn it. A small amount of clean paper or cardboard can be burned.
-
Food scraps and other compostable waste can also be placed in dry toilets. There are dry toilets in the national park at the following locations: Turula, Vaaralanaho, Paimenenvaara, Ikolanaho, Havukka, Pitkälampi, Ylä-Murhi, Pieni-Hiekkasaari, greater Hiekkasaari, Iso-Korppi, Pieni-Korppi and Laitosaari. Rental cabins have either a composting toilet or a separate compost.
-
Food scraps or trash should not be placed in vacuum toilets, as they clog the vacuum truck pipes. There are also vacuum toilets in the national park at the following locations: Likolahti, Myllypuro, Lakkala and Rykiniemi.
