Paddling
You can row or paddle in Lake Lohjanjärvi that surrounds the Karkalinniemi peninsula. The Karkkila-Tammisaari paddling trail passes through Lake Lohjanjärvi. In the Strict Nature Reserve, there is a landing point on the southern coast of the Karkalinniemi peninsula where you can land your boat. You can access the trail around Karkali Strict Nature Reserve directly from the landing point.
Bird watching
Karkali is well suited for birdwatching for people who know or want to learn to know the sounds of different birds. You can usually catch only a glimpse of birds in the lush herb-rich forest, but the spring-time concert of songbirds is unrivalled. Most of the bird species in Karkali are quite familiar from mixed forests, but you might also encounter rarer species, such as the grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus), the tawny owl (Strix aluco) and the Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum) as well as the Icterine warbler (Hippolais icterina) and the northern nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes).
