Starting point
National Park Entrance Gate- Annintupa Day-use Hut
The Toraslampi loop starts at the national park entrance gate and is marked with yellow paint marks on the trees.
The trail starts as a wide gravel path leading to Annintupa (1.5 km). There are suitable tent sites in the yard area of Annintupa.
Annintupa Day-use Hut - Koiratupa Day-use Hut
At Annintupa, the trail crosses the Pärjänjoki river via a large, wide wooden bridge. The next 1.4 km include duckboards, roots, and some gravel sections. Then the trail branches off toward either Koiratupa or Välitupa.
To reach Koiratupa, the trail is mostly a natural path for 1.8 km. It is possible to camp at Koiratupa, and the Koiraoja stream flows nearby.
Koiratupa Day-use Hut - Toraslampi Open Wilderness Hut
After Koiratupa, there is a junction where you head towards the Toraslampi open wilderness hut. The 4.5 km to Toraslampi is relatively flat but varied terrain. Parts of the trail are gravelled, and there are duckboards over wetlands.
The yard area at Toraslampi is somewhat uneven for camping, but there is a grassy field higher up the slope suitable for tents.
Toraslmapi Open Wilderness Hut - Lomaoja Lean-to Shelter
From Toraslampi, the trail continues toward Lomaoja lean-to shelter. Before Lomaoja, there are two junctions; the first leads to the Jaaskamo parking area, and at the second, you turn left towards Lomaoja lean-to shelter.
You can stay overnight at the Lomaoja lean-to shelter, and you can also set up a tent in the yard. In the yard, there is a woodshed and a toilet. Water can be found in the stream running through the marsh below the shelter, and it should be boiled before using it as drinking water. It is advisable to fill your water bottle at the shelter, as it is not possible to get water at Ahmavaara.
Lomaoja Lean-to Shelter - Ahmatupa Open Wilderness and Rental Hut
From Lomaoja, the trail continues towards Päätuore and the Ahmakallio observation tower, a distance of just over 4 km. The terrain is slow-going due to elevation changes and rocky ground. From Ahmakallio to Ahmatupa (2.2 km), the trail continues through rocky and rooty terrain, with some sections of duckboards in poor condition.
At Ahmatupa, the rental hut is located on the left side of the hut, and the open wilderness hut is on the right. The woodshed and toilets are found behind the hut. Stairs from the hut lead down to the shore of Ahmaoja, and at the bottom of the stairs, there is also a sauna and a campfire hut available for those who have reserved the rental cabin.
Ahmatupa Open Wilderness and Rental Hut- Ylpiätupa Day-use Hut
From Ahmatupa, the trail continues toward Ylpiätupa from the sauna corner. The hike to Ylpiätupa is a 3 km trek over Selkävaara through spruce forests. Just before Ylpiätupa, there are beautiful marshlands with duckboards.
Ylpiätupa Day-use Hut - Välitupa Day-use Hut
From Ylpiätupa to Välitupa (3.3 km), the trail descends significantly, and the path is challenging due to the elevation changes. At Välitupa, there is a day-use hut, a campfire site, and good spots for camping.
Välitupa Day-use Hut - Syöte Visitor Centre
Just over half a kilometer after Välitupa, you reach a junction you passed earlier in the hike. The final 3 km to the visitor centre follows the same path as the beginning.
