The southern circle trail on Örö is an exciting combination of shoreline cliffs, twisted archipelago trees, herb-rich forests and long pristine shores of sand and shingles. The 6’’ trail was named after the six-inch artillery battery and barracks along the way. Well-preserved gun emplacements and defensive structures as well as barracks can be found at the southern tip of the island. Exploring the bunkers will add a taste of adventure to your hike. Amazing sea views open out from the southern tip. For a part of the trail, you can walk through shoreline meadows which are grazed by sheep and highland cattle in summer. Coming face to face with a long-horned cow with shaggy hair on the trail may seem scary, but the animals are calm and gentle and present no danger to visitors. To avoid the pasture, you can follow the old cobblestone road directly to the southern tip. Parts of the southern circle trail lead through fenced-in pastures where pets and bicycles are not allowed. To avoid the pasture, cyclists are guided to follow the cobblestone and gravel roads leading across the island.

The start of the 6" trail can be found around 600 m from the barracks. When walking clockwise, the trail runs along a cobblestone road for a short distance. The distance from the starting point to the southern tip is around 2 km.
The trail then continues through lush pastures close by the seashore. At the beginning and end of the pasture area, you will go through gates which you must also remember to close. Pets and bicycles may not be taken to the pasture area. To avoid the pasture, cyclists are guided to follow the cobblestone and gravel roads leading across the island.
After the pastures, the trail leads on over some cliffs towards the southern tip of the island and passes a beach (note: this is not an official bathing area).
Close by the southern trip, hikers cross a short suspension bridge, after which the trail reaches a lookout point where one of the two 6-inch artillery batteries on the island is located.
After the southern tip, the trail continues along the cobblestone road to the next barrack area with a 6-inch artillery battery. At this point, you can take a shortcut and return to the starting point without leaving the old cobblestone road. Alternatively, you can continue north along the marked trail for around 1.5 km. The trail stays close by the western shore until it turns south.
The final trail section (around 700 m) back to the starting point passes through sun-lit butterfly meadows. This section follows the same path as the island’s northern trail.
