The Urpiaislenkki Trail runs through the Tankavaara forests, which is one of Finland’s snowiest areas. In winter, the surroundings of Tankavaara may look like a real magical forest as the crown snow stacks on tree branches. All year round, you may see great tits (Parus major), grey-headed chickadees (Poecile cinctus) and the lucky northern bird, Siberian jay (Perisoreus infaustus). Only during the nesting season in March and April, the Siberian jay will hide in its nest built in the shelter of a spruce tree. No official difficulty classification has been carried out for the Urpiaislenkki Trail, but the trail is easy and there are hardly any differences in elevation. The trail is gravelled, but it has no winter maintenance. The Urpiaislenkki Trail is marked in the terrain with green posts and green cone markers
