At the beginning, Koppelolenkki passes through fresh woodforest, and towards the end, through dry pine forest. About halfway along the trail, there is a wetland area by Hopiaoja, which is the lushest section of the trail in terms of vegetation. There is no official difficulty rating for Koppelolenkki, but the trail is easy with no significant elevation changes. Only the first 0.5 km of the trail is gravelled. The circular Koppelolenkki can be walked in summer and snowshoed in winter. The trail is not maintained in winter. Cycling is allowed on Koppelolenkki, but the path can be rocky and root-filled in places. By Hopiaoja, there is a campfire site, campfire hut, a dry toilet, and a woodshed. The trail is marked with green wooden posts with blue cone symbols.

Koppelolenkki starts from the Tankavaara parking area and passes through the yard of Sompiotalo (formerly the nature center).
At the beginning and end, Koppelolenkki follows the same path as other nature trails in Tankavaara, which are marked with cones in different colors. Follow the blue cone markers for Koppelolenkki.
After walking a couple of kilometers, you will reach the Hopiaoja campfire site, where there is a campfire hut, dry toilet, and woodshed.i.
