Starting pointPohjoisrinteet, Tunturikummuntie, 98900 Salla
The trail starts at the Pohjoisrinne(Northern Slopes) parking area and follows the UKK trail marked with red squares for 250 metres. The boundary of Salla National Park is crossed just before the power line and the first junction.
At the junction, turn right and continue along an easy-to-walk gravel path, marked with blue squares, through a mixed forest dominated by spruce.
About 750 meters after the junction, you will reach the first duckboards of the trail, after which the gravel path narrows.
The winding trail has occasional stones and becomes steeper as you ascend. Duckboards and stairs make the climb easier, and the sections between them are gravel-covered.
After the first stairs, on the left, slightly off the trail, there is a viewing platform. The stairs and viewing platform are metal structures. A narrow wooden path for dogs runs alongside the stairs.
Just before the top, there are longer stairs, with a viewing platform halfway up. From the platform, there are impressive views of the surrounding fell and hill landscapes. These stairs also have metal mesh steps with a narrow wooden path for dogs alongside.
At the top, you will find a rugged, rocky, and barren fell top. A narrow gravel trail continues to the viewing tower, offering spectacular views towards Salla National Park and the old Sallatunturi Fells on the Russian side.
The top area has sensitive fell vegetation, so it is important to stay on the marked trail.
From the viewing tower, the trail initially descends gently along duckboards from the fell top.
After the duckboards, the gravel trail continues, descending a bit more steeply down the fell slope. It's worth taking breaks here to enjoy the beautiful views over the Tunturilampi ponds.
Near the forest line, the trail continues as an easy-to-walk gravel path. The trail descends along the ridgeline of the fell and winds through a spruce-dominated forest.
About 500 meters before reaching Itärinteentie road, you come to the trail’s final duckboards, which lead all the way to the road.
The final 650 meter section, follows the gravel-covered Itärinteentie road before returning to the starting point.
