National Park Entrance - Luppovesi
The trail begins at the gate of Syöte National Park, at the corner of the Syöte Visitor Centre parking lot. There are also mountain bikers on the Syöte trail, who are advised to travel counterclockwise. So, if you'd prefer to see approaching mountain bikers, it’s recommended to hike the trail clockwise.
From the national park gate, the trail follows a wide gravel path, which serves as a ski trail in winter, towards the core area of Iso-Syöte and Luppovesi, where Syöte’s official swimming site is located. The distance from the visitor centre to Luppovesi is 2 km.
Luppovesi - Riihisuo
• From Luppovesi, the gravelled trail continues towards Riihikumpu. About a kilometer after Luppovesi, the route crosses Iso-Syötteentie, after which it turns into a forest trail that is narrower.
The trail is rocky and rooty in some sections up to Riihisuo, but the elevation change is minimal. Along the way, the route crosses two roads in the Riihikumpu cabin area.
Just before Riihisuo, you have the option to visit Riihitupa, a day-use hut located 0.8 km off the trail along the Pytkyn Pyrähdys trail.
Riihisuo is crossed on duckboards and a gravel path.
Riihisuo - Lauttalampi
After Riihisuo, the trail (2.4 km) runs through the terrain of Pytkynharju and climbs to the top of the ridge, offering beautiful scenery.
Kellarilampi is a cozy rest stop along the route, where you'll find a lean-to shelter and a small pier. Around Kellarilampi’s lean-to shelter, there are a few good tent sites.
At Kellarilampi, atop Pytkynharju, stands Syöte’s most iconic tree – Pytkyn aihki, a magnificent old pine that has witnessed the life of Syöte for hundreds of years.
From the old pine, the trail continues (1.8 km) along the ridge toward Lauttalampi, where you descend via steep wooden stairs.
Lauttalampi offers a lean-to shelter and a small pier by the clear lake. The yard of Lauttalampi’s lean-to shelter is suitable for hammock camping, but tent campers may need to search for a spot in a wider area.
Lauttalampi - Annintupa day-use hut
From Lauttalampi, the hiking trail continues towards the pine forests of Romekangas. After crossing Pärjänjoentie, the trail approaches Pärjänjoki, along whose shore it winds for the remaining 8.0 km towards Annintupa.
Annintupa is a day-use hut 0.2 km off the trail, located right by the Pärjänjoki river. On warm days, it’s a lovely spot to cool your feet in the river.
Annintupa day-use hut - National Park Entrance
From Annintupa, the route ascends back to the visitor centre (1.5 km) along Naavaparta trail. The path is fully gravelled and about two meters wide.
