Degree of difficultyEasy
The Stuorravárri trail runs through a bright pine forest and is a relatively easy day trip destination. At the beginning, the trail is rocky and crossed by thick roots, so good shoes are necessary. Along the trail, there is a magnificent waterfall, and the river crossing is done by stepping on the riverbed stones. High cliffs flank the narrow riverbed, and the water cascades down towards the distant Lemmenjoki. There are a few steel stairs and footbridges on the route. There are some wet spots on the trail, so water-repellent hiking boots are needed. There are no rest stops along the route. The trail is marked with orange paint marks on the trees.

Starting pointNjurkulahti parking area
The trail will start from Parking area of Metsähallitus, about 1.5 km from centre of Njurkulahti village.
At first, the Stuorravárri trail runs 2.3 km through a bright pine forest, gradually ascending over a couple of kilometers to a junction where the Stuorravárri trail branches off to the right from the Joenkielinen trail.
From the junction, Stuorravárri Trail continues westward and soon leads to a stunning waterfall and a river crossing over the stones in the riverbed.
2.8 km after the previous junction, the Stuorravárri Trail joins the Lemmenjoki Nature Trail and turns towards the eastern side of the Tulvalampi shore. From this junction, it is 1.6 km to the parking area.
The trail continues along the eastern side of the shore, while the path continuing after the flood ponds is the Lemmenjoki Summer Trail (marked with orange paint on the trees), which leads to the Muurahaislampi camping site.
