The trail goes through rolling hills and some fell slope sections, and it is mostly gravelled. The trail is marked with black posts bearing red signs with the Rumakuru symbol. The highlight of this trail is the steep-walled gorge created by meltwaters during the last Ice Age. However, we recommend that you admire it from a safe distance due to the risk of avalanches in winter and rock falls in summer. There is a day-use hut and some campfire sites near the gorge. The trail also bypasses the Piispanoja day-use hut and campfire site.

Starting pointLutontie 12, 99830 Saariselkä / Inari
From the Saariselkä starting gate, walk around 0.5 kilometres, after which the trail runs along the south-western slope of the Iisakkipää Fell for around 4 kilometres.
When you reach the brink of the Pääsiäiskuru Gorge, the Rumakuru Trail will depart from the Iisakkipää nature trail. Continue along the western slope of Vahtamapää Fell until the crossing between four hiking trails.
The distance from the junction to the Rumakuru day-use hut is approximately 1.5 kilometres. On your way back, follow the same way you came from for 0.5 kilometres. The trail then climbs the edge of a hill.
From the summit, the trail will descend to the Piispanoja campfire shelter, from which the remaining distance to the Saariselkä starting gate is 4 km.
Alternatively, you can go back from Rumakuru for 1.5 kilometres and turn left at the junction of four trails, towards the Prospektori Miners’ Hut. In this case, the trail will not go by the Piispanoja hut, and you will avoid the difficult ungravelled section before the Piispanoja Stream.
