The trail follows forests and the shores of Lake Päijänne. The highlight along the route is a observation tower built in the 1800s, offering a wide view over Tehinselkä. Due to the elevation changes in the middle section of the trail and some rocky parts the Päijätsalo trail is classified as intermediate.
The Päijätsalo observation tower in Päijänne National Park is closed until further notice due to rot damage
