Lakkapolku starts from the Surkansuo parking area (Suomuntie 19), which also has a dry toilet, as well as a table and benches.
Before the halfway point of the trail, there is a fire ecology research area, which is a mire island burned in 1989. The experiment was the first of its kind in Europe. Its purpose is to study the regeneration of forests in nature reserves and the restoration of natural conditions through the use of fire.
After the halfway point of the trail, you can take a detour to the Surkansuo bird-watching platform to observe the life of the bog. The bird-watching platform is a lower structure compared to a bird tower.
