Könkään keino trail takes you to the Loseikko lookout point, which offers a magnificent view of the landscape towards the winding Oulankajoki River. The highlight of the trail is Kiutaköngäs Rapids. The trail passes through a variety of terrain that includes an open pine forest, the river bank and also near some wet herb-rich forests and mires. The trail is available during the snow-free season, but a snowshoe trail often develops in the winter. The trail is mostly flat, but it also includes a few short uphill and downhill sections. The trail is marked with green paint signs on trees. You can also see yellow trail markings for Hiiden hurmos Trail and orange trail markings for Karhunkierros Trail on the trees.
The trail starts under a wooden gate at one end of the Visitor Centre. The wide trail is easy to identify in the terrain.
After approximately 400 metres, the trail comes to a crossing where you turn right and climb a gentle slope for about 900 metres.
The uphill section ends when you arrive at the reindeer round-up corral. Climb up to the viewing tower to see the entire corral.
The trail continues on duckboards along the shores of the upper Hiidenlampi Pond.
After a flat section, the trail descends a slightly steeper slope of approximately 400 metres.
There is a crossing at the bottom of the hill where you turn right.
The trail continues as a flat and wide path for 850 metres to the next crossing, where you can either continue 300 metres directly to the Merenoja campsite or turn left and go uphill to continue the trail.
The trail runs along the top of an esker for next 2 km before the Kiutaköngäs campsite. Along the way, you can stop at Loseikko lookout point and see the beautiful landscape down into Oulankajokilaakso valley.
From Kiutaköngäs campsite, the trail continues straight ahead as it nears Kiutaköngäs Rapids.
Just before the rapids, there is a crossing where you can go down some steep stairs leading to the trail section below the rapids and then walk through a rocky area to the upper end of the rapids. If walking on the rocks is challenging, you can continue along the marked trail from the crossing rather than taking the stairs.
The trail arrives at a wooden trail bridge at the upper end of the rapids, where you can admire the upper section of Kiutaköngäs Rapids.
After Kiutaköngäs Rapids, the trail continues along Oulankajoki River back to Oulanka Visitor Centre.
