There are small spruce forests, aapa mires and dry pine heaths along the hiking trail. Along the trail, a Peace Pole was placed at Korvatunturinmurusta as a symbol of world peace. In good weather, Korvatunturi Fell can be seen from Korvatunturimurusta. The trail has bridges for the river crossings. In some places, the trail is difficult to distinguish from the surrounding terrain, especially in bad weather or when it is dark. Navigation skills as well as a map, compass and accommodation are essential for hiking to the Korvatunturimurusta trail. Entering the border zone is not allowed without permission from the Finnish Border Guard. The trail that continues to the border zone crosses the Korvatunturinmurusta trail before the Korvatunturinmurusta Fell. The border zone is marked in the field. The trail starts at Kemihaara (roughly 100 km north of Savukoski- approximately 75 km of the distance is covered by gravel road), crosses the Keskihaara River branch and passes through small spruce stands and aapa mires to a dry pine heath.
After the reindeer fence , you will reach the Vieriharju Open Wilderness Hut yard. From there, the trail continues across low-lying heaths and aapa mires.
After Palo-Vieriharju, the Korvatunturimurusta hiking trail splits from the tourism service trail and heads towards the Rakitsanoja River. Following along the Rakitsanoja, the hiking trail leads to the Rakitsanoja Open Wilderness Hut.
After hiking about two kilometres from the hut, the trails rejoin and continue across a dry pine heath.
A couple of hundred metres before reaching the border zone, the hiking trail turns toward Korvatunturimurusta, where you can find the Korvatunturimurusta Peace Pole as well as a campfire site and dry toilet.
