Vaskijärvi Strict Nature Reserve with its surroundings is one of the largest areas in Southwestern Finlands which still are wilderness-like. Located next to Kurjenrahka National Park, the nature reserve is usually characterized by almost unbroken tranquility, with only the Cranes shouting and Dragonflies buzzing. Vaskijärvi Strict Nature Reserve is located in the flat watershed region of Southern Finland. Most of the park's area consists of marshland, but there are also a few lakes with marshy shores: Kajavajärvi, Vähä-Valanen, and Iso-Valanen. The Vaskijärvi lake gives the park its name and it is located on the southeastern border of the area, outside the park's boundaries. In the middle and on the edges of the mires, there are forested islands, which have never been logged. In addition to coniferous trees and the Birch there are Littleleaf Lindens and Aspens growing on the islands. Vaskijärvi is home to plant species typical of marshes, such as marsh tea, cloudberry, various mosses of wet types, sedges, grasses, and cottongrass. Birds such as the Common Crane, the Osprey, the Black Grouse, and the Willow Grouse thrive in the area. In Vaskijärvi area also live mammals, such as the Common Otter and the Siberian Flying Squirrel. Also the Moose population is strong. The abundance of insect species in the area is due to the old-growth forests.

  • There are also northern features, such as aapa mires

Lisäksi hirvikanta on vahva. Alueen hyönteislajisto on runsas vanhojen metsien ansiosta.
