Current Hiking Conditions In Tiilikkajärvi National Park

12/03/2024

We will update this article with current information on hiking conditions, seasons, terrain services, and exceptional situations in Tiilikkajärvi National Park

Hiking conditions

The conditions are wintry. For more detailed information on snow conditions and weather, please check the Finnish Meteorological Institute's website.

  • With the arrival of winter, there will be changes especially to routes, movement restrictions, as well as arrival and parking.

  • There is no winter maintenance on the routes, and for example, you may need to clear snow at the campfire sites.

  • The ski tracks will be groomed only in late winter, and the maintenance of the tracks is the responsibility of the municipality of Rautavaara.

  • The Pohjoisniemi parking area will be out of use for the winter, as the road leading to it is not maintained in winter. However, a lay-by for a couple of cars will be plowed at the beginning of the road, along Kajaanintie. From there, it is about a two-kilometer walk to the national park. There is also no winter maintenance at the Konttikangas parking area near Pumpulikirkko.

  • Read more about this in the Tiilikkajärvi Arrival-section, where you can also see the winter maintenance of other parking areas.

  • The movement restrictions in the ridge area, which protect the sensitive ridge terrain from unnecessary wear, will be lifted when permanent snow falls. During the thawed ground period, movement and landing are only allowed on paths, camping areas, and designated landing sites on the map.

  • Note that camping is only allowed in the Koseva and Venäjänhiekka camping areas. This restriction is in effect year-round.
