Sarvikallio recreation area is a lovely family-friendly outdoor destination, suitable for both beginners and more experienced hikers. There are magnificent views of Lake Tuusula from the highest point on its shores, and it is easy to explore the area along the waymarked trails. Sarvikallio is also culturally and historically significant, as early 20th-century painters spent time there with their families and friends.

Sarvikallio recreation area is located in Tuusula, on the shore of Lake Tuusula surrounded by a cultural landscape and wetland. The peak of Sarvikallio rises 25 metres above Lake Tuusula, offering magnificent views of the lake.
At Sarvikallio you can experience the atmosphere of the old forest and the deciduous forests, or follow a winding boardwalk through the spruces. The best way to explore the area is along the Seittelinreitti trail, which can be followed for example on foot or by bike. The peak of Sarvikallio is a nature conservation area, where you should stay on main routes to prevent erosion and to protect nature, and where camping is prohibited. Be careful on the peak of Sarvikallio as there is a steep drop. The rocky areas can be slippery when wet.
In the early 20th century there was an artist community on the opposite shore, with members such as Pekka Halonen and Eero Järnefelt and the composer Jean Sibelius. Sarvikallio was a favourite destination among the artists and their families, and they painted many views of this peak they called ”Little Koli”.
On the peak of Sarvikallio there are two open campfire sites with benches, a woodshed and a dry toilet. The accessible dry toilet can be found about 200 metres before the peak and the campfire sites.
Sarvikallio is a great year-round destination, although the routes have no winter upkeep. When the ice allows, the Tuusulanjärvi wild ice skating route passes by Sarvikallio, where you can enjoy a rest break. In the summer you can arrive by a small boat and make use of the little jetty.

ArrivalSarvikallio recreation area can be reached by car, by bike or on foot. The nearest bus stop is a little over 2 km away at Paijalantie. Kerava and Järvenpää train stations are both a bit less than 10 km away, and the journey can be made by bike.
If arriving by car, from the main 45 road take a turn to Nummenväylä which soon becomes Paijalantie. After about 2 km turn right onto Sarvikalliontie and follow it for 150 metres to the parking area.

AccessibilityThe paths at Sarvikallio are easy and at least a metre wide, with a hard gravel surface. There are however steep inclines and significant changes in elevation. There is an accessible dry toilet in the area.
