Hiking services in Ruunaa

There are about 30 campfire sites in the Hiking Area and the cooking shelter is located on Neitikoski parking area. The Hiking Centre offers a wide range of services such as accommodation and restaurant and café services. There is an accessible trail and fishing pier at Neitikoski.

Campsites

  • As campsites are shared resting places, you should show consideration towards other hikers.

  • There is no waste management at the campsites, so bring your rubbish home.

  • **** Lighting fires is only allowed at serviced and designated campfire sites.****

  • There are about 30 campfire sites in the Hiking Area.

  • Before you light a fire, always check if any forest fire warnings are in effect. When a forest fire warning has been issued, lighting fires is prohibited.   • Do not burn rubbish or tear off bark from living trees. You can use a small amount of clean paper and cardboard to light your fire.

  • The last person to leave the campfire site is always responsible for putting out the fire.

Drinking water

  • Do not wash dishes or yourself in natural waters or on well covers.
  • After use, remember to soak any washing water into the ground far enough away from natural waters or water supply points
  • Always boil water from natural sources before drinking it.
  • There is a water tap on the wall of the Hiking Centre where you can take tap water with you.

Toilets

  • There are dry toilets in the hiking area

    • You can tip small amounts of leftover food into the dry toilet.
    • Remember to bring your own toilet paper.
  • There are also suction toilets in the hikin area

    • No waste other than human is to be put into a suction toilet. Any excess waste in the suction tank will cause problems and increase the cost of waste treatment.
    • Remember to bring your own toilet paper.
  • There are toilets in Ruunaa Hiking Centre.

Waste disposal

Recycling points are at Siikakoski and Neitikoski parking areas and at parking area east of Haapavitja.
