Geocaching
Geocaching is a fun way to explore the park.
Fishing
- Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are allowed under everyman's rights.
*** However, all types of fishing are prohibited in** Kuikkalampi, Pieni Kuikkalampi, Savulampi ja Mustalampi. - Persons aged 18-69 years must pay the fisheries management fee (eräluvat.fi). If you fish with more than one rod, you also need Metsähallitus' angling permit no 7413 for Southern Finland (eräluvat.fi). Fishing permits are available from Metsähallitus' online shop (eraluvat.fi).
- For trap fishing, in addition to paying the fisheries management fee, you will need Metsähallitus' trap fishing permit no 7004 for Ilomantsi (eräluvat.fi)). Permits can also be purchased by phone at +358 (0)20 69 2424.
- Fishers need to check the restrictions on fishing sites at kalastusrajoitus.fi (in Finnish).
Mountain biking
Mountain biking is allowed according to everyman's rights. Always stay on clearly visible tracks and pay attention to other hikers.
Hiking
Taitajan Taival Trail (31 km) is the oldest hiking route in North Karelia and excellent for longer hikes. The trail takes hikers through breathtaking scenery and has lean-to shelters for overnight stays.
Swimming
The best place for swimming in the park is Petraniemi. There is no official swimming spot in the National Park.
Boating
The park offers great opportunities for boating. The nearest place for launching boats is in Oinassalmi, along the road to Möhkö. The ramp is maintained by Ilomantsi local authority. Motorboats are permitted on Lake Petkeljärvi and Lake Valkiajärvi.
