Hiking services in Patvinsuo

There are campfire sites in Patvinsuo where you can also camp. At the Suomun Nature Hut, there is a rental sauna, accommodation services, and a non-electric caravan area. Waste disposal points are located in Kurkilahti and Suomu.

Campsites

  • As campsites are shared resting places, you should show consideration towards other hikers.
  • There is no waste management at the campsites, so bring your rubbish home.
  • Lighting fires is only allowed at serviced and designated campfire sites.
    *** Before you light a fire, always check if any forest fire warnings are in effect.** When a forest fire warning has been issued, lighting fires is prohibited.
  • Firewood is provided at campfire sites. Remember that you may have to chop up the wood yourself. Please use the firewood sparingly.
  • Do not burn rubbish or tear off bark from living trees. You can use a small amount of clean paper and cardboard to light your fire.
  • The last person to leave the campfire site is always responsible for putting out the fire.

Drinking water

  • Always boil water from natural sources before drinking it.
  • Do not wash dishes or yourself in natural waters or on well covers.
  • After use, remember to soak any washing water into the ground far enough away from natural waters or water supply points.

Wells in Patvinsuo National Park

  • The water from the Suomun Kaunislahden beach well can be used as drinking water without boiling.
  • The water from the Suomun yard well must be boiled before drinking.

Toilets

  • Dry toilets are available at all camping and parking areas, except at the Kurkilahti parking area.
    • Remember to bring your own toilet paper.
    • You can tip small amounts of leftover food into the dry toilet. Check the instructions for using the toilet provided at the campsite.
  • There are vacuum toilets at the Kurkilahti parking area and the Suomun yard. The Suomun yard toilet is accessible.
    • Do not put food waste in these toilets, as it will clog the vacuum truck pipes.
    • Bring your own toilet paper.

Waste disposal

In Patvinsuo National Park, hiking is done without leaving trash, and there are no waste bins at the park's parking areas, along the trails, or at the campfire sites.

  • Take your rubbish home, do not burn it.
  • Remember to bring some rubbish bags when you go out.
  • Do not throw food waste out in the forest.
  • There are sorting points at the Suomun and Kurkilahti parking areas. You can sort compostable waste and non-combustible waste there.
