By car to Oulanka National Park
Oulanka National Park is located on the boundary between Kuusamo and Salla municipalities. The distance to the National Park is 30 km from Ruka tourist resort, 50 km from Kuusamo and 40 km from Salla. The nearest villages are Käylä, Juuma and Hautajärvi.
Please note that the hiking trails start at different locations around the National Park. This is why you should check the starting point of your trail in advance. The most common starting points for day trips are the parking area of Oulanka Visitor Centre (address: Liikasenvaarantie 132, Kuusamo) and Juuma parking area (address: Juumantie 133, Kuusamo).

Mataraniemi paking area

The nearest address is Liikasenvaarantie 138, Kuusamo. The parking area is at the end of a kilometre-long forest road branching off from Liikasenvaarantie. No winter maintenance. There is space for several cars in the parking area, and one designated accessible parking spot located about 5 meters from the starting point of the trail. The surface of the parking area is gravel.
Niitselyksentie parking area

Open all year. In winter, a small parking bay is plowed on Niitselyksentie, which can accommodate 2-3 cars.
Hautajärvi parking area

Open all year. Napapiiri Café offers parking for 10 €/day for overnight visitors, while day visitors can park for free.
Savilampi parking area

Open only during the snow-free season. The forest road leading to the parking area is not maintained in winter. The nearest address is Teeriahontie 10, Salla. From Urriaavantie you turn to Teeriahontie, drive for 1 km and turn left, then drive 5.5 km along the forest road to reach the parking area at the end of the road. Oulanka Canyon is signposted along road 950 and at all crossroads.

The parking area has spaces for about 90 cars and a couple of buses. The parking area is available year-round and has winter maintenance. Congestion may occur during peak holiday seasons. Overnight stays in camper vans in the parking area are only allowed from November to January.
