In Nuuksio National Park, visitors can explore representative natural features of Southern Finland. Diverse forests, a range of water bodies and interesting rocky outcrops together with the numerous trails and small paths in the park offer countless opportunities for different activities. At Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, you can learn about Finnish nature across the board.

  • Plenty of old-growth forests, rocky outcrops and rock faces, brooks, mires, lakes and ponds
  • Lake Matalajärvi, a significant bird wetland with a lot to see during spring and autumn migrations
  • Trails of varying lengths in different areas of the park
  • Accessible trails in Haukkalampi and near Haltia
  • The park has several camping areas, cooking shelters and campsites
  • Finnish Nature Centre Haltia houses exhibitions, has a café/restaurant and rents out hiking gear

Activities and trails

Marked hiking trails is the best way to explore Nuuksio’s diverse nature. The trails in the area are numerous and add up to dozens of kilometres.

Everyone’s rights have been restricted in the National Park for conservation reasons. The permitted biking trails are mainly connecting trails.

Nuuksio National Park is a green oasis in the capital region. The rocky lake upland is home to many species that thrive in the old-growth forests, lush meadows, mires and many small lakes of the park.

  • The National Park is a nature reserveEveryman’s Right are not valid as such in national parks.
  • Always keep pets on a leashAlso remember a dog waste bag and clean up after your dog.
  • Make campfires only in designated sitesAlways check the current wildfire warning before making a fire. During a wildfire warning, fires are only allowed in cooking shelters with a chimney.
  • Remember to bring a trash bagBring a trash bag and take the trash with you or to the recycling point.
  • Camp only at permitted camping sitesCamping is only permitted in the immediate vicinity of designated rest and campfire sites, and huts.
  • At the campfire site, only the firewood provided at the location or brought by yourself may be used.Remember to use firewood sparingly.
